In this article, I will give 6 tips on how to market your business on social media.
1. Know Your Target Audience
Everyone knows that in every business, defining your target audience is essential.
Your target audience may vary depending on your niche. If you are already have a great idea of a target group for your business, you’re one step closer to the usage of social media networks.
For those who are still unsure of what is the target audience for their business, I will give some examples of attributes that can help determine the target audience.
Target audience can be determined by the certain age range, sex, geographical location, interests, etc. More importantly, your target audience is determined by a certain need or a problem your audience needs help to solve.
Knowing your target audience will help you determine the best social networks for marketing your business and create effective marketing campaigns.
2. Choose Which Social Media Networks You Will be Active
The niche and the target audience that you’ve chosen can help you decide which social networks it’s best to market your business on.
What I mean here is that you should study the demographics of users of a social network of interest and compare it with the demographics of your target audience, because each social network may have certain differences in its audience.
For instance, there are more female users of Instagram and Pinterest compared to male users and on LinkedIn, it is vice versa.
Another important step is to be aware of the rules and regulations of these social networks when it comes to marketing your business. This is especially important because some niches are prohibited on certain social networks due to previous activity of some scammers.
You need to make sure that you comply with the rules of the social networks when you market your business to avoid any red flags.
3. Create a Social Media Marketing Plan
Many businesses fail because they fail to plan. This also includes failure to plan marketing campaigns, including ones on social media.
First, you need to figure out your aims when you use social media. Do you want to gain some traffic? Maybe you are just aiming for a greater brand awareness? Whatever your goals are, be sure to include them in your plan.
It is very important to plan ahead; in case you reach your first goal, what’s your next objective?
Also include in your plan how are you planning to market your business.
It is as important as it is sometimes a bit intriguing to check your progress in your marketing campaigns. Are you reaching the results you seek? Are you falling behind or are you going beyond the expected results?

4. Post Content from Your Website in an Engaging Way
To increase your brand awareness and gain traffic on social media, you should post content from your business site on your fan pages.
Methods of sharing your content may differ on each social network, but they all allow the use of visual aids such as photos or videos.
You can also post media related to certain events such as holidays. If it’s Christmas, you can post a Merry Christmas wish, which can be a postcard or a video.
Within your posts with videos, photos, or other visual aids, always make sure that you include links to your website or specific content that is relevant to your post on social media.
But make sure that you don’t oversell anything from your content. This will can be a turnoff for your audience and it can also raise red flags for the social networks.
Also, make sure that post your content regularly but not spamming.
Posting frequency norm for each social network may vary. For example, on Facebook and Google Plus, you can normally post once a week.
5. Give Paid Marketing Campaigns a Shot
Free, organic traffic is very important for your business, but it doesn’t mean that you should completely avoid paid marketing campaigns or paid traffic.
In fact, paid traffic can also help you get more organic traffic later on, since your content and your brand will be spread by your followers you’ve gained via paid marketing campaigns.
You can either pay to increase the brand awareness of your business, or to gain traffic either to your business website in general or to separate content.
To do this, you need to set up the target audience settings (see Tip #1) and then choose a budget. To run a small campaign, the minimum price can range from roughly $1 to $30 a day, but for each social network the budget size may vary. Obviously, if you want to increase the brand awareness of your business among the bigger audience or get a bigger traffic boost, your budget should be bigger.
Even though paid traffic can help you out, you should not rely solely on that, just like it’s not recommended relying solely on organic SEO traffic. Hence, aim for a balance between the free and paid traffic.
Warning: As mentioned earlier, some niches are tough to market on some social media networks, due to their policies (e.g. digital marketing and dating niches on Facebook). The main reason is that in these niches scammers showed up and ruined the reputation of these niches within a particular social network.
In that case, it is very important to get accustomed to the rules and regulations related to marketing your business on corresponding social networks.
6. Engage with Your Followers
Just like on your main business website, you will have followers leaving comments and questions under your post. Hence, you should regularly check your business accounts on social media to see if any of your followers left anything for you.
If they did, always be sure to engage with them. Be there for them. Answer their questions, or leave them a reply. Make sure they feel special. This way you will start get more and more loyal followers, your permanent followers. Your permanent followers can also spread the awareness of your business through the word of mouth or by sharing your posts or links on their social media profiles.
But the best way to make sure that engagement within your business fan page takes place is when you encourage it yourself. Encourage your followers to leave comments or questions and you will see the results.
A good example can be “If you want more information about XYZ, type ‘info'” or something along those lines. You are probably familiar with these kinds of sentences and have seen them in fair amount of social media ads.
7. Don’t Forget: Social Share Plugins are Essential!
I’ve mentioned earlier that social share plugins are very important because they can bring you some extra traffic, and hence more potential for revenue.
Your followers may like the content that you post, and hence they would want to share it with people in their circles.
This can only be done with social share buttons.
The way this plugin works in your favor is that you will get more traffic and followers of your business website. This number will grow if the sharing continues.
These were some tips on how to market your business on social media.
Social media marketing, just like any other aspect of a business, requires time, dedication, effort, hard work, and planning, to make sure you succeed.
If your first campaign doesn’t go the way you expected, don’t get discouraged. Take time to analyze your previous campaigns and figure out what could be the problem. Perhaps, it maybe just a small thing that needs to be fixed.
